Greater Edmonton Chapter

Current Member Count: 117

Edmonton, Alberta's Capital City, is located on the North Saskatchewan River and home to North America's largest urban parkland at 7400 hectares. Edmonton's River Valley contains 22 city parks and 150 km of trails. Edmonton is also famous for its festivals, with over 30 each year. Edmonton's most popular festivals include the Folk Music Festival, the Capital Ex, and the International Fringe Theater Festival.

We are committed to supporting our local chapter membership in professional development. Continuing education, integral to the acquisition of new knowledge and professional development, is an important factor in fostering the best possible nursing care. To this end, the Greater Edmonton Chapter encourages continuing education and will assist its members financially to attend critical care education programs.

The results are in!

We received many great suggestions from the on-line membership survey.

Here is what you had to say:

·         Offer more educational sessions. The desert and educational topic was a great idea ... why didn't it continue? - We liked this too! We are looking at other different venues to reach out to the different needs of the membership.

·         Certification study group - We have one going on now through Telehealth. Check out the website for the reference numbers to get linked in.

·         Continue to have quality workshops, keep in touch with newsletters - Winter Newsletter coming soon! Planning for next workshop is in the works.

·         It's hard to get people off for educational sessions which I feel is the main benefit of being a member - The group is looking for ways to get the word out at the different sites about why CACCN education days are important for Critical Care Nurses. Any suggestions are welcomed.

·        You could come to the units to promote in person- pre-arranged - Ideally we would like to have a CACCN representative at each site. This person would be the direct link to the Chapter Executive (or be a member of the Executive). If you would like to be this person let us know!

·         Somehow have to engage management at all sites to see that CACCN is of benefit to their staff and for them to support efforts of their staff to attend education sessions. - Again open to suggestions.

·         Getting the word out about benefits of membership and more education days. Even more frequent evening or afternoon sessions. - Planning events is a lot of work and we need you to send us your ideas for speakers, topics, or venues. We would like to have more offerings too...just tell us what you want to see.

·         Group needs to be more visible. - This is a priority for the group this year. Please let us know if you can be a unit representative.

·         Offer a free membership to an RN that has never been a member before. - We had much success with our give aways at the last education day and we will continue to try new creative ways to get new members in our group...even if we have to give a few memberships away!

We had other suggestions to use blogs, facebook, or Linked in to connect with members. These are great ideas we will look into...we just aren't the most tech savy group! We'll keep you posted on that. For now consider starting up a discussion on the CACCN website in the Members Only forum or visit the CACCN on facebook!
