The Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses (CACCN) is seeking applications to appoint an Editor to lead the Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing. 

The Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing™ (CJCCN), formerly known as Dynamics: The Journal of the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses and Dynamics: The Official Journal of the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses, is distributed to members of the CACCN, to individuals, and to institutions interested in critical care nursing.  The journal is published four times annually.  

A peer-reviewed journal, the CJCCN is a national journal for the publication of original manuscripts, including clinical, education, management, research and professional issues in critical care nursing.  Original articles on any aspect of critical care nursing are welcome. The journal is listed in CINAHL and Medline.  The journal provides a forum for: new clinical practices, clinical case studies, research papers, short reports, reviews, arts-informed scholarship and Letters to the Editor.

The Editor will support the growth and reputation of the journal as the voice for critical care nursing in Canada, excellence in practice, education, and research. The Editor will assure that the Journal continues to build on the values, achievements and goals of the Association.  The Editor is a volunteer position; it is a one-year appointment with an opportunity for renewal on an annual basis and requires a weekly time commitment. 

The role of the Editor includes but is not limited to the vision and strategic development of a scholarly journal, decision making, manuscript handling and quality control, and journal promotion.  As the Editor of the Journal, you must be prepared to mentor authors of all experience levels. The position involves working closely with the Editorial Review Board, the CACCN National Office and our publishers.  The Editor reports to the CACCN National Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will be a leading member of CACCN and will be recognized within the critical care nursing community nationally.

Qualifications:   The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

  • Membership with CACCN required. 
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in critical / intensive care
  • An established record of published articles and outputs
  • Evidence of supporting nursing colleagues with publication and dissemination skills
  • Effective leadership and decision-making skills
  • Awareness of trends within knowledge dissemination and ability to be forward thinking.
  • Awareness of ethical standards for journal publishing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and computer literacy.
  • Established national networks to assist with expansion of the editorial review board, as needed.
  • Previous experience of the editorial process would be preferred.
  • Experience using social media would be an advantage.
  • Awareness of the CACCN and contributes to relevant priorities and developments.
