Abstract submission information
ABSTRACT SELECTION PROCESS
The Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference Advisory Committee, Education Sub-committee and the Dynamics 2018 Calgary Planning Committee will complete a blinded, peer-review of all eligible abstracts submitted for consideration. Abstracts will be ranked using a standardized rubric format. All decisions of the Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference Advisory Committee, Education Sub-committee and the Dynamics 2018 Calgary Planning Committee will be final.
CONTENT and PRESENTATION DEVELOPMENT
Should your abstract be selected for presentation, the CACCN National Conference Advisory, Education Sub-Committee will be available to assist you in your preparations. All presenters, regardless of experience or expertise, are invited to reach out to the committee with questions, concerns, and feedback, as you work on your final presentation. The committee can connect you with content and subject matter experts and skilled, experienced presenters, who can assist you to obtain the best impact for your topic and your session. POSTER PRESENTATIONS ONLY: APPLY FOR THE CACCN/SAGE POSTER BURSARY
The CACCN / Sage Products Poster Bursary provides a $500 bursary to eligible applicants to attend the Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference to present a poster with a focus on the prevention of complications or deleterious impacts of critical illness hospitalization. SECTION 1: PRIMARY AUTHOR AND CO-AUTHOR INFORMATION
All correspondence will be via email with the Primary Author only. Please ensure the following information is provided for the primary author and all co-authors.
- First/Last Name and Credentials
- Full Mailing Address
- Telephone / Cell Phone Number
- Preferred Email for contact
- Biography for each author (Maximum 100 words per author)
SECTION 2: ABSTRACT TITLE and KEY WORDS (Maximum: 50 words)
Provide a clear, concise, and creative title for your presentation. The title should draw in the audience you think would most benefit from your talk. Select a maximum of four key words to describe your presentation.
SECTION 3: LANGUAGE
Submit in English or French. You must identify at the time of abstract submission which language you will present in.
SECTION 4: TYPE OF PRESENTATION
There are currently three types of ORAL presentations and one type of POSTER presentations offered at Dynamics 2018 (this information is subject to change). Please indicate the type of session most appropriate for your topic and presentation plan. The Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference Advisory Committee, Education Sub-committee and the Dynamics 2018 Calgary Planning Committee reserve the right to make the final decision for determination of session type.
SECTION 5: LEARNING LEVEL
Indicate the level of information your presentation will provide.
NOTE: The learning level assigned for each session is to assist delegates to choose presentations that can best facilitate achieving their individual learning objectives. However, delegates may choose to attend any session or any level of session.
SECTION 6: AGE-SPECIFIC POPULATION
Select the population of focus for your session: Neonatal, Paediatric, Adult, Older Adult, or All Ages
SECTION 7: PURPOSE / GOALS (Maximum: 100 words)
Describe the most important information that you will convey in a clear and concise two (2) sentence statements (please do not use bullet points or numbering). The purpose statement will be published in the Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference Brochure (electronic) to assist delegates with their conference session selections.
SECTION 8: LEARNING OUTCOMES (Maximum: 50 words, per objective)
Provide one to three learning objectives for your session/poster. Describe what delegates will leave your session knowing or learning.
SECTION 9: SESSION DESCRIPTION (Maximum: 250 words)
This is the most important part of the abstract for the review process. Please include a brief paragraph describing your proposed session, including identification of the main topic(s) or issue(s) that you will address. Session descriptions should be creative and engaging, and identify all the essential components of your proposed session. From your abstract, the Dynamics of Critical Care™ Conference Advisory Committee, Education Sub-committee and the Dynamics 2018 Calgary Planning Committee must be able to fully envision what you are presenting and how you intend to convey this information to the audience (i.e., theoretical review, case study, audience polling, etc.). The Session Description along with the Learning Objectives will be published in the Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing™.
SECTION 10: REFERENCES (Maximum: 3 references, APA 6th Edition)
Include a maximum of three (3) references for each abstract submission. References must be cited in the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition format for publication in the Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing. (for APA Resources, see information below). References must be uploaded to the system in a separate Word document. Please do not upload in PDF format. Submissions with improperly formatted references will not be accepted until the authors provide revision aligning with the desired format. It is also strongly suggested that, should your abstract be selected for presentation, presenters have a full and complete list of their up-to-date references for delegates attending their session.
On a rare occasion references are not appropriate for the session content / topic. If this is the case for your submission, please identify at the time of abstract submission by uploading an explanation in Word document.

SECTION 11: PRE-REQUISITES
List pre-requisite knowledge and/or skills required for the delegates attending your session. This will allow delegates to select sessions most applicable to their individual learning goals and needs.
